Microsuction for Healthcare Assistants and other support workers

This is a new 2 day course in Microsuction specifically for support staff. Many Practices would prefer their staff not to irrigate and are looking at suction as an alternative. Nurses and Audiologists can already access our Microsuction Study Day. This course is for Healthcare Assistants and others, with the same structure as the HCA Course in irrigation - HCAs attend both days, Mentors just the first.

Suitable for:

  • Healthcare Assistants working in general practice and the community
  • Associate Audiologists and other support workers working in a variety of environments

The course provides knowledge and practical guidance which, together with mentorship in situ, should enable support workers to fulfil their extended role.

Please be aware that students should make sure that they are insured to perform microsuction at their place of work before carrying out the procedure.

Learning Outcomes:

  • An understanding of the basic anatomy and physiology of the ear
  • An understanding of basic ear care
  • A foundation of knowledge on which to base practical ear microsuction including otoscopy
  • Reflected on accountability and documentation
  • An understanding that, during and following completion of the course, they will undertake ear microsuction within appropriately delegated, monitored and supervised conditions and within the limits of their knowledge, skill and competence
  • An understanding that, following the course, ear microsuction will continue to be undertaken in accordance with the Ear Care Guidelines

Following the course, the student will require practical supervision by a suitable mentor who has received training in ear care. The mentor must be identified, and approved, prior to commencement of the course and must attend the first day of this course.

Price: £525.00 per HCA & Mentor (includes lunch, but not accommodation)
